Finding the right psychology professional in South Africa is harder than it should be. Not because there is no information, but because working out which kind of professional you need is genuinely difficult, and that question comes first.
What this is
A directory of registered psychology professionals, and a set of guides explaining what each kind of professional actually does. South Africa registers psychology professionals in eight categories with legally different scopes of practice. Most people arrive knowing they need help, not knowing which of those eight they are looking for.
What “verified” means
Every professional listed here is verified against the HPCSA register before their profile is published. Nothing unverified ever appears. A Verified badge means we checked that professional’s registration number against the register on the date shown. It is not an endorsement, a quality rating, or a statement that they are a good fit for you. We re-check annually, and the badge expires if we do not.
Their registration number appears on their profile, so you can check it against the HPCSA register yourself rather than taking our word for it.
What we do not do
- We do not provide psychological or medical services.
- We are not an emergency service.
- We do not diagnose, treat, or give clinical advice.
- We do not book appointments or contact professionals for you.
- We do not pass your details to anyone. When you contact a professional, you do it directly.
- We do not vet clinical quality or supervise anyone’s practice.
